Campaign of the Month: December 2016
Gamma World 2754
Area 6 Deathland
Clearly visible from 20km away in good conditions are the titanic remains of a 25th century structure or artifact sprawled across this landscape like the coiled skeleton of a monstrous metallic serpent. The ruins consist of over 40km of overlapping coils piled atop one another up to 200 meters high in places, making travel in this area slow and difficult. Huge beams, girders, masses of huge cables, a central backbone over 40m in diameter around a dozen great 200 meter circular platforms must be traversed to reach the central hills where the base of the great structure apparently originates. Many mutated creatures have made their home here amongst the mountains of twisted wreckage and within the thousands of meters of hollow conduits. The original purpose of this mammoth structure is not understood by anyone outside Eagle Clan Scribe company, who believe it was somehow related to the Daedalus starship program.
The outer 5-10 km of this area was the site of a major battle between Combine and UWS forces in wwIV. The carcasses of hundreds of vehicles and robots lie scattered across the landscape in and among the giant twisted coils of the metal snake. The desert landscape around the wreckage is a crazy-quilt patchwork of blackened or glassy craters and gouges, some hundreds of meters long.
Atop the central hills is a great 500 meter concrete platform which apparently served as a base for the giant device, now broken off and flung several kilometers away leaving only a 200 meter stub protruding from the original structure. The torqued stub serves to illustrate what the structure must have looked like in ancient times: a massive central spire along which slid huge 200 meter circular platforms, stabilized by 6 surrounding lesser conduits. In it’s death throes the stupendous mechanism must have detached from its base and flopped about like a crazed earth-destroying midgard-serpent, smashing off entire hilltops and obliterating the outlying structures for kilometers in every direction.
